The Milky Way is Not Just a Candy Bar

There are some things that are very pleasing to the eye; we refer to them as "Eye Candy." These are things that we look at that can change our mood and can make us become either excited or relaxed, whatever the emotion the effects are positive. Although, Milky Way's are pleasing to the eye, and their general categories both start with the letter C, constellations and candy bars, The Milky Way Galaxy and The Milky Way Candy Bar have very few similarities and a great deal of differences like their substance, size, and purpose.

The Milky Way Galaxy is a huge collection of stars, dust and gas in the sky, it got its name from the white band of light that can be seen across the celestial sphere from Earth. It is made up of around 2-4 billion stars, it is also the home of the Sun and our solar system. The Sun and our solar system revolve around the center of the galaxy at a speed of half a million miles per hour. It is thought to be at least 13 billion years old. Where as, the Milky Way Candy bar is made up of carbohydrates and fats and has a very short life span.

The size of The Milky Way Galaxy is measured by light years. It has a circumference of about 250-300 thousand light years. If we could travel by the speed of light (186,000 miles per second) it would take over 25,000 years to reach the middle. Our solar system, and the Sun takes about 200 million years to go around it once. It is a spiral galaxy with a bulge. disk, and a halo. The bulge and halo are filled with the old stars and the disk is filled with dust, gas, and young stars. The Milky Way candy bar does not compare in size it is about 6 inches in length and 1 inch in width, a human hand can wrap around its entire width. It has a rectangular shape and takes about 1-2 minutes to get to the middle of it and 3-5 minutes to eat the entire bar.

The Milky Way Galaxy's purpose is scientific; it is a landmark in the sky that helps astronomers find information on the locations and distances of other galaxies, including ours. It helps to give an estimate of the time it takes for our solar system to go around it to see if Earth is changing in speed. The Milky Way Candy bar purposes are too satisfy hunger and a sweet tooth.

Compared to the substance, size and purpose of The Milky Way Galaxy, the candy bar has no real importance to our Earth, it is not vital to our existence and discoveries but, the pleasure it can bring us when eating it can be great.
