"What's happening, what's coming?" "How do you know this is going to happen?" When I hung up the phone I realized that Dr. Griffin could really be serious. Is there really a large asteroid flying through the universe and headed straight to Earth? I told my friend that Dr. Griffin called and explained what he was calling about and was it possible to help.

My friend and I are graduates from MIT and for the last three years have been studying physics checking Sir Isaac Newton's Laws of Motion. My name is Harvey Duwilliker and my friend is Glen Wollinstien. The call we received from Dr. Griffin gave us an idea about something one of our old professors from MIT was working on a few years ago. Dr. Swanson, our old professor, was creating an electromagnet large enough to help control most of the satellites in our Solar System. My friend Glen and I went down to see Dr. Swanson's magnet while he was working on it so we can see how it worked. We know how it works and I think if I check out the magnet, my friends and I can make a few changes in it to help retract Earth from the asteroid impact.

We explained to Dr. Swanson the situation we were in with the out of control asteroid and how his magnet might help. With Dr. Swanson's help Glen and I came up with an idea that by magnetically charging the majority of the satellites that are currently in our Earth's atmosphere, it may be possible to move the Earth a few miles closer to the Sun in order to avoid the asteroid's impact.

Together we called Dr. Griffin to tell him of our plan and he seemed pretty excited in that it could possibly work. Knowing we were excited Dr. Griffin reminded us we had less than seventy two hours to test this plan before the asteroid's impact. With that in mind we wasted no time and got right to work. Glen made the coffee and we got busy.

For the next sixty hours we aligned as many satellites as we could to Dr. Swanson's electromagnet until we, as the scientific team, felt would have enough magnetic pull to possibly move the Earth.

Dr. Griffin called the President to explain the situation, but was put on hold. Suddenly Dr. Swanson gave us the go ahead and we turned the magnet on and felt a large earthquake like shake. Glen had the asteroid in view in the telescope and quickly gave us the good news. We have avoided the asteroid's impact and needed to shut the magnet down. Dr. Griffin finally got through to the President, but wasn't too sure what to say so he said he dialed the wrong number and hung up.

Glen, Dr. Griffin and I left Dr. Swanson and his magnet and went back home to continue our own research. Glen said this could possibly make us famous, but we decided we didn't have time for Hollywood.
