Youth Exploring astronomy Essay Contest
"'The moon, Mars, or the asteroids where do we go next and why."
Where do you think we should go next the Moon, Mars, or the asteroids? I think we should go and take a visit to the asteroids next. The asteroids are very old and were there when the solar system was born. asteroids have not changed since the solar system was formed, so scientists can tell what materials were common when the solar system was first formed. Also, asteroids have minerals hidden inside of them. Maybe, we can send another probe to rocket into space and study the asteroids and to try and find a new type of mineral. When we do, then we can put the mineral into a vitamin and cure some illnesses.
Asteroids are a lot like meteorites and meteorites are where scientists' get most of their information about asteroids. Meteorites are very, very big, but meteorites are just a small fraction that has been broken off an asteroid. That tells us that asteroids can range in size between 600 miles (965 kilometers) in diameter to 20 feet (6 meters) across at the smallest. Some asteroids are large enough to have their own moon. One asteroid, named Ida, has a small moon named Dactyl.
Asteroids are very interesting rocks in space and are fun to learn about. I hope that this essay will persuade scientists and astronauts to visit the asteroids very soon.
