The Astronomy Dudes

The Astronomy Dudes (currently Jeff and Dick) are members of the Antelope Valley Astronomy Club and, for the club, provide programs for schools and other organizations on request. Dick Hague and Jeff Riechmann, a.k.a. THE ASTRONOMY DUDES, are retired professional educators who, as members, represent the Antelope Valley Astronomy Club by providing FREE outreach educational programs to the schools of the Antelope Valley. They also provide this educational opportunity to other organizations upon request.

If it is a daytime talk and weather permits we will set up a Solar Telescope outside for some grand views of the sun with its’ prominences, flares and sun spots. We use posters, models, and handouts to help in understanding the particular topics. Our talks do not get into extreme technicalities unless we are asked to do so.

If he is it town, their little alien friend, Roswell, may even make a surprise guest appearance and show some of the meteorites he has collected during his travels throughout the universe, an appearance which always meets with screams of excitement from the children! The kids get to hold the actual meteorites and pose with Roswell for a group picture, waving just like aliens!

The Astronomy Dudes are amateur astronomers and do the presentations on a volunteer basis. They want to spread the word about the roswell_tmbvalue of astronomy and believe school children and the general public have many misconceptions about astronomy. The programs try to correct misconceptions and answer questions. No question is considered trivial. In addition, children are encourage to study all of the sciences by explaining that they are going to be our next astronauts and that one of them could even be the first person to walk on the planet Mars!
